The Case 113 exhibition is dedicated to corruption and the unfulfilled reforms in the judicial system. It was inaugurated on February 16, 2017, at the Seasons Gallery in the capital and serves as the second political caricature exhibition following Exhibition 113, which highlighted Bulgaria’s 113th place in the Reporters Without Borders ranking on press freedom.

The exhibition is organized by the Society of Ill-Mannered Cartoonists, founded in 2016. This group unites cartoonists who hold a sharp and uncompromising stance against societal injustices. The society’s founders include well-known Bulgarian cartoonists Chavdar Nikolov, Hristo Komarnitski, and the duo Alla and Chavdar Georgiev. Their mission is to confront the arrogance of power-hungry politicians through the relentless critique of political cartoons.

Despite the supposed development of democracy, all media outlets in Bulgaria have fallen under the control of a few oligarchic structures, leaving no room for independent voices. A vast chasm has emerged between the political class and society. Someone must sound the alarm, and the Ill-Mannered Cartoonists have taken on this role. They are the people who care about Bulgaria’s future – those who believe it is their duty to expose the dirty laundry of corrupt politicians and prevent a silence vacuum from forming around their actions.

The society’s latest initiative is a print publication – Pras Press, set to hit the market on March 1, 2017. The goal of the newspaper is to establish a zone of fierce criticism and help Bulgaria escape its shameful 113th place in press freedom rankings.
