In 2019, twenty years after the city was a host of the\r\nMonth of Culture in 1999, it will celebrate the most prestigious cultural\r\ninitiative of the European Union.<br>\r\nEuropean Capital of Culture is a unique project for Bulgaria which provides new\r\nopportunities for the development of the potential of the city and new\r\ninternational visibility and a perspective on Bulgarian culture as a whole. The\r\nprogram of Plovdiv European Capital of Culture 2019 also\r\nincludes&nbsp;activities and events in the South Central Region of Bulgaria.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After four years of preparation, Plovdiv 2019\u2019s lineup will\r\ninclude more than 300 projects and nearly 500 events covering not just Plovdiv\r\nbut also the entire South Central Region as well as the city finalists from the\r\nsecond round of the competition \u2013 Varna, Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program highlights are chosen according to their\r\npotential to gather the most numerous and colorful audience and to build high\r\namplitudes and intense experiences.&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of the European Capital of Culture&nbsp;program\r\nis precisely to challenge preconceived notions towards the purpose and\r\ncharacter of art, where it appears and the people who create&nbsp;it.
